At Tiori Square, we democratize knowledge.
Knowledge is at its best when it is being shared, challenged, and refined. The world is better off when those who advance the understanding of a topic share what they have learned with the general public. Tiori Square exists to serve as a platform for researchers and practitioners to share what they have learned, explore questions, find solutions, and hopefully make the world better. It is a place where people communicate which each other in a civil and focused manner on defined topics. Tiori Square is where objectivity, evidence, reason, and logic meet collective discourse. This site is for thinkers, communicators, researchers, practitioners, and anyone else seeking to advance the understanding of any topic. Tiori Square is for those who have questions, the community of thinkers who are willing to help answer them, and the communicators who can share those answers with the world.
Answers to some of your questions:
Q. What does “Tiori” mean, where did come from
A. Tiori means theory. The word tiori can be found an in many different languages across multiple continents (see here). Some languages use an ‘e’ for the first ‘i’; some substitute an ‘e’ for both ‘i’s; others add an ‘a’ to the end. This particular version is the Igbo spelling. Nonetheless, the word, and all of its derivations, tends to be universal in describing a compilation of information leading to a generalized notion about a particular real or abstract topic. That’s my definition of theory. Here is Merriam-Webster’s.
Q. Why are you doing this?
A. There is a lot of knowledge generated in this world. We should share that knowledge as broadly as possible. By doing this, we can educate, inspire, problem-solve, and develop civil society collectively and optimally.
Q. No, seriously. Why are you doing this?
A. Those who come up with great research, great ideas, great solutions, etc. tend to not be the ones who turn that knowledge into positive outcomes for society. It’s not until it goes from knowledge generators to knowledge users that real progress is made. So, if we want better outcomes, greater / faster technical advancements, and higher levels of collective thought, we should get knowledge out of the realm of academia, where it is generated, and put it into the minds of those who can make things happen.
Q. What will you do with my work?
A. We will promote your work to individuals who are communicators interested in your subject matter. The goal is for those ‘knowledge conveyors’ to help you get your knowledge to the masses. In doing so, they get content. But you get to share your material, build your name, credibility, and portfolio of work.
Q. Why wouldn’t I just publish in a journal?
A. Refereed journals are the gold standard. However, it is a often cumbersome, time-consuming, and subjective process. You can attempt to get an article approved for publication and that knowledge may get buried for long periods of time, years even, before you get an approval. It could be a year or two with reviews and rewrites. Then there is the wait for the publication schedule. And that’s if you are not rejected.
A. We are not trying to replace peer-reviewed journals. We also aren’t trying to compete with them, But their exclusivity, slow publication pace, and often hyper-subjective approval process means that there is knowledge that just doesn’t see the light of day. We think that is a bad thing. So, feel free to aim for those journals. However, the material that you want to get out into society that the publishers say no to (for subjective reasons, not the poor quality stuff), the material that you do not want to spend years trying to get approved, or the material you want to get out quickly – post that here.
A. One more thing on subjectivity. It has been our observation that name recognition helps with getting approval with journals. Using this site, will help you get the name recognition to help with the journal submission process. So, use us as a primer to build street cred for other publications.
